Acorns, a US financial wellness and investing platform, has acquired Frich, a peer-led financial education community, in a move to attract younger consumers before they begin investing. The deal brings Frich’s founders into Acorns to lead education and community initiatives, aiming to make wealth-building more accessible.

Frich co-founders Katrin Kaurov and Aleksandra Medina have joined Acorns as co-leads of education and community. The financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. This acquisition grants Acorns access to Frich’s audience and its network of creators who produce financial education content. It aligns with Acorns’ strategy of reaching first-time investors through creator-led material and social engagement.

Acorns Acquires Frich to Expand Reach

The acquisition targets a significant barrier to investing: the perception that financial markets are complex and exclusive. Acorns intends to engage consumers through peer conversations, which already influence their financial attitudes. This approach could introduce saving and investing concepts before individuals turn to traditional financial platforms.

Kaurov and Medina established Frich in 2021 to address the scarcity of relatable financial education for young adults. Frich’s model encourages learning from peers through group chats, social media discussions, and creator videos. This contrasts with relying solely on formal lessons or established financial resources. Frich also developed a peer-benchmarking tool. This tool allows users to compare their financial behavior with that of others in similar situations. The feature is designed to help members understand their spending and money habits relative to those of individuals with comparable circumstances.

The integration of Frich provides Acorns with an additional avenue to connect with consumers who may not yet be prepared to invest. It also offers a method to build engagement through established communities and peer discussions. Existing Frich members will be integrated into the Acorns platform.

Acorns CEO Noah Kerner stated, “Investing is intimidating. Doing it with others can help people get past that. Katrin and Aleksandra helped a lot of people say ‘I don’t know’ out loud, and that’s a good place to start. We keep betting on builders like them.” This acquisition underscores a broader trend in wealthtech, where strategic choices will differentiate firms by 2026, according to F2 Strategy reports. The focus on attracting the next generation of investors is becoming increasingly crucial for platforms looking to maintain relevance and growth.

Frich co-founder Katrin Kaurov commented on the synergy, saying, “We spent five years getting people to talk openly about money. Acorns is the natural next step, because it lets us pair that conversation with investing and saving.” This sentiment was echoed by Frich co-founder Aleksandra Medina, who added, “Money feels like culture when it’s honest, relatable, and social. That’s what we built at Frich. It’s what we get to keep building at Acorns.”

The acquisition by Acorns signifies a commitment to fostering financial literacy and accessibility, particularly among younger demographics. By incorporating Frich’s community-driven approach, Acorns aims to demystify investing and encourage early engagement with wealth-building tools. This move is consistent with the broader industry’s efforts to leverage technology and social dynamics to create more inclusive financial ecosystems. The partnership between Acorns and Frich is poised to create new opportunities for financial education and investment, potentially shaping how future generations approach their financial well-being.

The company’s strategy of integrating FinTech founders into its operations also continues with this deal. This approach allows Acorns to foster innovation and develop new products and communities. The emphasis on creator-led material and social engagement highlights a recognition of how younger consumers learn and interact with financial information. This acquisition is expected to strengthen Acorns’ position in the competitive fintech landscape by offering a more holistic and engaging experience for aspiring investors.
